PostHeaderIcon 6/30/09: Durham Completes Sweep of Columbus

For the 6th time in a row, the Columbus Clippers lost a game. This is the 9th game out the last 10 against Durham at home, and the 13th loss of the last 16 games. Seriously now, the Clippers are on a serious sliding streak. This loss brings Columbus to 35-45 and puts them in dead last in the International League.

Nobody hit home runs for the Clippers, but Jon Weber, Matt Joyce, Rhyne Hughe, and Chris Nowakall did for Durham.

Clippers’ RHP Kirk Saarloos had a a horrific start, allowing four home runs in just five innings. This lowers his stats to 3-10. Durham’s LHP Carlos Hernandez had a great start, allowing just 5 hits in 6 innings while striking out 4 batters. This increases his record to 5-4.

Tomorrow night the Clippers will take on the Toledo Mud Hens (3rd in the IL) at 7:05 on Huntington Field. This is the first of two games here at home followed by two games up in Toledo. There are two promotions – Huntington Knot Hole Kids Club and Flag Lady “Mini-Flag” Giveaway – that you should come and check out.

PostHeaderIcon 6/30/09: Notes For Tonight

The Game – Tonight, the Clippers will be facing the Durham Bulls at 7:05 on Huntington Field.

The Stats – Last night, Columbus played Durham for the 3rd time in a row and lost, yet again. This time, the score was 4-3. This moves the Clippers to Third place in the International League and gives them a 34-44 record.

The Clippers have lost the last 5 games, giving the third 5L streak of the year. They have also lost 7 of the last 8 at home against Durham.

Starting Pitchers- The Clippers, trying again to stop their loosing streak, will be sending RHP Kirk Saarloos (3-9) to the mound. Durham will hope that beginners luck holds for LHP Carlos Hernandez (4-4), who will be facing the Clippers for the first time ever.

Notes – Andy Marte, who was named player of the week last week, hit in his 21st RBI of June last night. This makes him the first Clipper to record 20+ in a month since last August.

Michael Brantley stole another base last night, giving him 1 in each of the last 5 games. This gives him 30 steals for the season, and places him at the head of the IL.

If the Clippers want to keep from being swept in their series with Durham, then they need to win tonight.

Promo Night – There are three different promotions tonight. You should check them out.

Good Luck Boys
