PostHeaderIcon Marte is Named IL Player of the Week, again

Last week, I revealed that 3rd baseman Andy Marte was named Player of the Week by the International League. Well, this week he got named it again. LHP Jon Niese of the Buffalo Bisonswas named pitcher of the week. This is a huge honor for Marte, and also some very good news for Columbus.

Marte clearly deserves the title, and he shows it with some pretty impressive stats. In the last week, Marte has:

  • .441 batting average
  • 6 runs
  • 6 doubles, 2 HR
  • 6 RBIS

According to Jim Massie with the Columbus Dispatch, this is the first time since Cole Hamels in 2006 that a player has been named repeat Player of the Week.

Congrats the Andy Marte, and to the whole Clippers team.

PostHeaderIcon Marte is Named Player of the Week

Today, the International League revealed that 3rd Baseman Andy Marte is the player of the week. Marte, who was sent to the Clippers on feb. 25th after a succsessful 2008 season with the Indians, is one of the best players currently in the lineup for the Clippers. Over the past week, Marte has had some pretty amazing stats:

  • .478 Batting Average (a .307 overall)
  • He has hit 2 doubles, 2 home runs, and 8 RBIs
  • He has scored 4 times
  • He has struck out only once
  • .826 SLG
  • Jim Massie from the Columbus Dispatch also pointed out that Marte has 20 RBIs in June.

These are pretty impressive statistics. Too bad Marte can’t make the rest of the team better.

PostHeaderIcon 6/26/09: Rochester Beats 6-1

This night, Rochester sent Columbus packing with a dominating 6-1 victory. This loss splits the four game series between the two teams, as Columbus won twice and then Rochester won twice. According to Jim Massie with the Columbus Dispatch, this means that Columbus went 2-6 during their trip in upper New York.  Tony Graffanino scored Columbus’ only run, as Andy Marte knocked him in.

With this loss, Clippers’ LHP Chuck Lofgren dropped to a 2-4 record and Rochester’s LHP Brian Duensing’s record went to 4-6.

Tomorrow, the Clippers will take on Durham at 7:05 in the evening at Huntington Park. It is also a promo night, as AJ Hawk will be there signing autographs. Come join us.
