PostHeaderIcon 8/3/09: Notes for Tonight – Columbus v. Gwinnett Braves

The Game – Today, the Columbus Clippers will be facing the Gwinnett Braves at 7:05 at Huntington Park.

The Stats –This afternoon’s game will be the third game of a 4-game series between these two teams. It is also the third game of the 8-game homestand for Columbus. Columbus is losing both, 0-2. If Columbus wants to tie the series, they must win tonight and tomorrow night.

Columbus is 47-60 putting them at last (4th) in the International League West. Gwinnett is 61-48 putting them in second (of 4) in the International League South. They are also in first in the wild card race.

Starting Pitchers – Tonight, the Clippers will be sending LHP Chuck Lofgren (5-6) to the mound. Lofgren, of course, has an interesting track record of good games followed by bad ones, he is due for a good one tonight. The Braves are countering with LHP John Halama (3-3). Halama has never played against the Clippers before.

Notes – Lou Marson has reached base on 20 of his last 21 tries. The first 19 of those were consecutive, and gave him the 19th (interesting) highest of the season. 18 of these were when he was with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs.

In his last 4 games, Jordan Brown has gotten 3 multi-hit games – this brings him up to 33 for the season. He also has the most hits in the IL, with 119.

While the Clippers are still the first and only team to 500+ runs for and 500+ runs against, they are also now the first and only team to 1000+ hits for the year.

Promotions – Tonight, there is just one promotion to check out: Dime-a-Dog night!

PostHeaderIcon 8/1/09: Notes for Tonight – Columbus v. Gwinnett Braves

The Game – Today, the Columbus Clippers will be facing the Gwinnett Braves at 7:05 at Huntington Park.

The Stats – Tonight’s game will be their first game after being on the road for the last 8. On that trip, the Clippers went 2-2, 2-2, 4-4 for all respective stats. Tonight is the first game of a 4-game series between these two teams. It is also the first game in a 8-game Homestand for the Clippers.

Columbus is 47-58 putting them at last (4th) in the International League West. Gwinnett is 59-48 putting them in second (of 4) in the International League South. They are also in first in the wild card race.

Starting Pitchers – Tonight, the Clippers will be starting LHP Zach Jackson (4-7). The Braves are answering with LHP Jo-Jo Reyes (1-1). In 4 showings against the Clippers, Jo-Jo is 2-0. Last time he faced Columbus, he faced just one batter before being injured.

Notes – Michael Brantley is just dominating this year. Not only did he hit his fifth home run (personal best), he stole his 36th bag of the season, another best for him. Furthermore, it ties him with Gerald Williams for 10th best in Clippers history!

Lou Marson Had a 19-game onbase streak going, but it was snapped last night. 18 of those games were when he played with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs.

I will be live twittering the game (MiLB rules state no more than once per half-inning of actual game stuff) and writing up a full story after. Feel free to send me any questions or comments throughout the night, as I will attempt to help you out.

Promotions – Tonight, there are three different promotions that you should check out.
