8/19/09: Notes for Tonight – Toledo at Columbus
The Game – Tonight, the Toledo Mud Hens will head to Huntington Park to take on the Columbus Clippers at 7:05.
The Stats – Tonight’s game will be the first game of a 4-game homestand in Columbus. It is also the third game of a 6-game series between the two teams. The first two games were played at Fifth Third Field in Toledo, while the final four games of the series will be in Columbus at Huntington Park. Toledo currently is leading, 2-0.
Columbus is 51-71, putting them at last (of 4) in the International League West. Toledo is 62-62, putting them at 2nd (two above Columbus) in the International League West.
Starting Pitchers – Tonight, the Clippers will be sending LHP Ryan Edell to the mound. Edell is 0-4 and looking for his first win this year. The Mud Hens will be countering with LHP Dontrelle Willis (0-1). Willis has pitched only once against the Clippers before, he didn’t get a decision.
Notes – Earlier today, the Cleveland Indians announced that they were bumping Matt LaPorta up into the bigs.

Matt LaPorta is Called Up!
Today, the Cleveland Indians announced that they are bringing Matt LaPorta up into the majors. While he was a great addition with Columbus, he deserves this shot, and we wish him luck.

8/14/09: The Indianapolis Indians Dominate the Columbus Clippers, 14-5
Tonight, the Indianapolis Indians absolutely crushed the Columbus Clippers, 14-5. This was the 5th game of a 7-game series between the two teams, and the Indians are leading, 3-2. I was also the second game of the series at Huntington Park, where the two games are tied, 1-1. The Indians started the game off by scoring 7 in the first inning! they then scored once in the second and 6 times in the 5th. The Clippers scored twice in both the 4th and the 6th, and once in the 8th. The Clippers had no chance.
This was the 7th loss in the last 10 games for the Clippers, and the 10th in the last 15. This makes them 50-68, putting them dead last (of 4) in the International League West.
For the Indians, catcher Erik Kratz and designated hitter Jeff Clement cleared the fences. For the Clippers, right fielder Stephen Head hit one home run and left fielder Matt LaPorta cleared the fences TWICE!
RHP Brad Lincoln(3-2) got the win tonight. RHP Ken Ray (2-6) got the loss. The more I watch Ken Ray pitch, the more I think that the Clippers need to cut him loose.
Tomorrow night, the Clippers and the Indians will play again at Huntington Park in Columbus. The game will be at 7:05. This will be the sixth game of a 7-game series between the two teams, and the third in a 4-game homestand for the Clippers. The Indians currently lead the series, 3-2.

8/12/09: The Indianapolis Indians Squeeze by the Columbus Clippers, 2-1
In what seemed like a repeat of Monday’s game, the Indianapolis Indians squeaked by the Columbus Clippers, 2-1. This was the 3rd game a 7-game series between the two teams and the last game at Victory Field in Indianapolis.The Clippers started the game off, scoring 1 in the second inning. The Indians then scored 1 in the second, and 1 in the fifth to win the game.
This was the 8th loss in the last 10 games for the Clippers, and the 11th in the last 15. This makes them 49-67, putting them dead last (of 4) in the International League West.
The Clippers’ sole run came from a home run from first baseman Matt LaPorta. Designated Hitter Jeff Clement got a home run for the Indians as well.
LHP Ryan Edell was credited with the loss, making him a dismal 0-4. RHP Virgil Vasquez got the win, making him 7-2. RHP Juan Mateo grabbed his 5th hold and RHP Jean Machi got his 2nd save of the season.
Tomorrow night, the Clippers and the Indians will play again, this time at Huntington Park in Columbus. The game will be at 7:05. This will be the fourth game of a 7-game series between the two teams, and the first in a 4-game homestand for the Clippers. The Indians currently lead the series, 2-1.

8/9/09: The Buffalo Bisons beat the Columbus Clippers, 12-8
This afternoon, the Buffalo Bisons beat the Columbus Clippers, 12-8. This was the third win in a row for the Bisons, who had been having a 5-game losing streak prior to this. This was the final game in the series between these two teams, and the Bisons easily won it. Buffalo started the scoring in the first, and they kept going til the very end. There was no chance for Columbus.
This was the 8th loss in the last 10 games, and 11th in the last 15 for the Clippers. They just finished their 4-game series against Buffalo, they lost 1-3. This was also the end of an 8-game homestand, which they lost 1-7.
For the Bisons, Nick Evans hit his 7th homerun and Robinson Cancel got his first for the season. For the Clippers, Josh Barfieldhit his first home run and Matt LaPorta hit his 14th.
RHP Lance Broadway got the win tonight, making him 4-7. LHP Chuck Lofgren got the loss, putting him at 5-7.
Tomorrow night, the Clippers will head to Victory Field to take on the Indianapolis Indians. This will be the start of a short 3-game away trip for the Clippers. The game will start at 7 pm.

7/25/09: Notes for Tonight – Columbus v. Pawtucket
The Game – Tonight, the Columbus Clippers will be facing the Pawtucket Red Sox at 6:05 at McCoy Stadium.
The Stats – Tonight’s game is the second game in a 4-game series between the two teams. It is also the second game in a 8-game road trip for Columbus. Columbus is leading both 1-0.
Columbus is 44-54, which puts them dead last in the International League West. Pawtucket is 45-51, and in 5th (of 6) in the IL North.
Starting Pitchers –Tonight, the Clippers will be starting RHP Ken Ray (2-5). The Red Sox are answering with LHP Billy Traber (5-2). In 5 games against Columbus, Traber is 1-0.
Notes – Matt LaPorta also has a bit of a streak going. In the last 18 games, LaPorta has been on the bases at least once. He intendes to keep this going.
